Spillimacheen


SPILLIMACHEEN, pop 279, is a rural settlement on the COLUMBIA R, 60 km southeast of GOLDEN. It was named by explorer David THOMPSON and means "swift running river." Nearby lead, ZINC and SILVER deposits were worked at the Giant Mine from the 1880s until the late 1950s.
