SMITH, Eustace, timber cruiser (b 1876, Derbyshire, England; d 1964, Vancouver). At age 11 he came to BC with his family to homestead at BLACK CREEK, near COMOX. After working at various jobs in the coastal FOREST INDUSTRY, he established an office in VANCOUVER in 1907, providing timber cruising, brokerage and management services. He established a reputation as the best timber cruiser in BC, having discovered many large stands of valuable timber for his clients, including the NIMPKISH Valley....
