Smith, Brian R.D.


SMITH, Brian R.D., lawyer, business executive, politician (b 7 July 1934, Victoria). A graduate of UBC law school, he entered politics as an alderman, then served as mayor of OAK BAY from 1974 to 1979. He was first elected to the provincial legislature for the SOCIAL CREDIT PARTY in 1979 and joined Premier Bill BENNETT's CABINET as minister of education. Twice re-elected in his Oak Bay–Gordon Head riding, he also served as minister of energy and mines (1982–83) and attorney general...
