Skinner, Thomas J.


SKINNER, Thomas J., pioneer settler (b 1822, West Thurrock, England; d 1889, Cowichan). He was an official with the East India Co in London when he was offered a job as bailiff of one of the PUGET'S SOUND AGRICULTURAL CO's farms on VANCOUVER ISLAND. He arrived with his family and some other settlers early in 1853; over the next few years he developed at ESQUIMALT a successful farm known as Oaklands.
