SAVONA, pop 581, is a small community 44 km west of KAMLOOPS, where the THOMPSON R leaves Kamloops Lk. When FUR TRADERS arrived, the site was being used seasonally by aboriginal people. It was originally known as Savona's Ferry after Fran├žois Saveneux, who settled in 1858 and operated a cable ferry across the river.
