Ridley, William


RIDLEY, William, Anglican bishop (b 22 July 1836, Brixham, England; d 25 May 1911, England). The son of a Devon stonemason, he worked as a carpenter before training for the mission field. In 1879 he was consecrated first bishop of the new ANGLICAN diocese of Caledonia (northern BC) and came to live at METLAKATLA, his chosen see for the diocese, for nearly 20 years.
