Province Exploring Expedition


PROVINCE EXPLORING EXPEDITION, 1894–96, accomplished the first crossing of VANCOUVER ISLAND from north to south. Named for the PROVINCE newspaper, then a VICTORIA weekly, the expedition was led by Rev William Washington Bolton, headmaster of a Victoria boys' school. It got underway 7 July 1894 from Cape Sutil at the north end of the Island and travelled by foot, raft and CANOE as far as WOSS LK.
