Procter

PROCTER, 26 km northeast of NELSON on the south shore of the west arm of KOOTENAY LK, is a small resort community. The CPR built a line from Nelson in 1901 and Procter served as an ice-free port for steamships. For many years it was the site of the CPR's handsome Outlet Hotel. The name was originally Proctor, after a local rancher, but changed as a result of confusion with T.G. Procter, a Nelson realtor.
