POWELL, Eric, Anglican missionary (b 9 Nov 1933, Edmonton, AB; d 14 May 1997, Victoria). While studying at the Anglican Theological College in the 1950s he began working summers for the COLUMBIA COAST MISSION in KINGCOME INLET. When he was ordained in 1958 he moved to Kingcome and his experiences with the local KWAKWAKA'WAKW people formed the basis for Margaret CRAVEN's best-selling novel of the coast, I Heard the Owl Call My Name (1967).
