Phillips Arm

PHILLIPS ARM, 60 km north of CAMPBELL RIVER beyond E THURLOW ISLAND, was the land of the Kwiakah, a KWAKWAKA'WAKW (Kwakiutl) First Nation whose name means "to club." The Dorth Morden was the largest of a number of mines that flourished between 1890 and 1930. A large FORESTRY camp was located here in the 1970s, and in the early 1990s some innovative LOGGING was done with the assistance of balloons.
