Pearse, J.B.


PEARSE, J.B., surveyor (b 1832, Devonshire, England; d 1902, Victoria). He arrived at FORT VICTORIA in 1851 and soon after was appointed surveyor to the colony of VANCOUVER ISLAND. Among his many tasks was surveying the townsite of VICTORIA, overseeing the erection of government buildings and, with J.D. PEMBERTON, laying out most of the first ROADS on the Island.
