Peace Arch

PEACE ARCH is a towering (20.4 m) white gate straddling the Canada–US border south of VANCOUVER at WHITE ROCK. It was dedicated on 6 Sept 1921 and commemorates peaceful relations between the 2 countries. Money to pay for the arch was raised by schoolchildren in BC and Washington state; the names of the young donors are embedded in the structure. Within the arch 2 iron gates remain symbolically open. The grounds surrounding the arch have been a provincial PARK since 1939.
