Niven, Frederick John


NIVEN, Frederick John, novelist (b 31 Mar 1878, Valparaiso, Chile; d 30 Jan 1944, Vancouver). Born to Scottish parents who were living in Chile, he was raised in Glasgow; many of his novels deal with Scotland and with Scottish immigrants in Canada. Niven himself arrived in BC in 1899, sojourning in the KOOTENAY for treatment of a lung disease.
