NEMETZ, Nathaniel, jurist (b 8 Sept 1913, Winnipeg, MB; d 21 Oct 1997, Vancouver). He came to VANCOUVER at age 10 with his parents, studied at UBC and, after apprenticing with a legal firm, was called to the bar in 1937. Early in his career he was associated with labour law. Appointed a judge on the BC Supreme Court in 1963, he became chief justice in 1973. Four years later he became chief justice of the Appeal Court, the top judicial position in BC.
