Millside


MILLSIDE, or Fraser Mills, was a company town on the FRASER R northeast of NEW WESTMINSTER, centred on the Ross Maclaren SAWMILL built in 1889. The mill became Fraser River Saw Mills in 1906 and began importing FRANCOPHONE workers from Quebec to replace its Asian workforce. The newcomers established a separate community, MAILLARDVILLE, and at Millside SOUTH ASIANS, other Asians and white millworkers lived in different sections of the community. The area has been part of COQUITLAM since 1971....
