McGregor

McGREGOR, a LOGGING settlement 63 km east of PRINCE GEORGE on the FRASER R and the VIA Rail line, was abandoned in about 1970. The McGregor R, named after Capt James McGregor, a well-known VICTORIA land surveyor killed in WWI, runs to the north through the McGregor model forest, where research is done on sustainable logging. Various area SAWMILLS, including the Cornell mill at nearby Dewey, operated over the years. By 1999 only a few CNR employees lived at McGregor.
