Mannion, Joseph


MANNION, Joseph, hotelier (b 17 Mar 1839, County Mayo, Ireland; d 12 Sept 1918, Lillooet). He arrived in BC in 1862 and after an abortive attempt at GOLD prospecting went to work for the COLLINS OVERLAND TELEGRAPH. He was at BURRARD INLET in 1875 helping to build the HASTINGS MILL, and by the mid-1870s he was a prospering hotelier, owner of the Granville Hotel in GASTOWN and the Gladstone Hotel on the trail between NEW WESTMINSTER and the inlet.
