LITERARY STOREFRONT, Canada's first artist-run literary centre, was founded in 1978 in the GASTOWN neighbourhood of downtown VANCOUVER by the poet Mona Fertig. The Storefront hosted and recorded weekly readings and book launches, offered writing workshops and publishing information, published a newsletter and an annual anthology, sold literary periodicals, housed a press, held literary exhibits and had a lending library.
