LILLARD, Charles Marion "Red," writer (b 26 Feb 1944, Long Beach, CA; d 27 Mar 1997, Victoria). He grew up in Alaska, then moved to BC in the mid-1960s and studied creative writing at UBC. A poet, historian, teacher, editor, translator and sometime NEWSPAPER columnist, he published his first book of poetry, Cultus Coulee, in 1971 and went on to publish more than 25 other books while making varied contributions to the VICTORIA literary community.
