Laketon


LAKETON, or Laketown, was a MINING camp established in 1874 on the west side of DEASE LK at the mouth of Dease Crk. It was the capital of the GOLD RUSH into the CASSIAR district in the mid-1870s, and a post office operated here from 1874 to 1880 under the name Cassiar. At its peak it had a population of 500, several hotels and saloons, a courthouse and a jail. By 1900 the GOLD was exhausted and the site was abandoned.
