Kopas, Cliff


KOPAS, Cliff, storekeeper, writer, outdoorsman (b 1911, Nanton, AB; d 1978). He was raised on a farm in Alberta. As a teenager he undertook long pack trips in the wilderness. Later he and his first wife Ruth used packhorses to traverse Alexander MACKENZIE's route to the Pacific; they arrived in BELLA COOLA in 1933. There he worked as a packer, writer and photographer before opening a general store that was still in business at the end of the 20th century. Ruth died in 1935. With his second wife...
