King, Albert Lorenzo "Al"


KING, Albert Lorenzo "Al," union leader (b 3 Mar 1915, Manchester, England; d 7 April 2003, Vancouver). He was brought to Canada in 1928 by his parents, who settled on a homestead in northern Saskatchewan. He dropped out of school at age 13 to help support the family. In the middle of the Depression he left home to find work and ended up in TRAIL, where in Mar 1937 he was hired on at the COMINCO smelter. One of the first members of Local 480 of the INTERNATIONAL UNION OF MINE, MILL & SMELTER...
