KELESI, Helen, tennis player (b 15 Nov 1969, Victoria). Her parents moved to BC in 1968 when the USSR invaded their native Czechoslovakia and she grew up in RICHMOND. She broke into the international scene in 1985, winning her first TENNIS tournament the next year in Japan. Known for her fiery intensity, Hurricane Helen won 3 more singles and 2 doubles championships (one of them paired with Monica Seles) and beat some of the world's top players.
