Horseshoe Bay


HORSESHOE BAY is a small community (pop about 1,000) on HOWE SOUND, 20 km north of downtown VANCOUVER. Called Chai-hai by the original inhabitants, it was developed as a summer resort by a land company in 1909. In 1914 the Pacific Great Eastern Rwy (see BC RAIL) arrived and the number of summer residents grew. One of the earliest was the Roedde family of Vancouver, who built a home here in the early 1900s.
