Hells Gate Blockade


HELLS GATE BLOCKADE occurred in 1913–14 when debris from rail construction nearly blocked the FRASER R at HELLS GATE, north of HOPE. It is one of the greatest environmental DISASTERS in BC history. The CANADIAN NORTHERN RWY was building its main line through the canyon and to save time and money was illegally dumping rock into the river.
