Harmon, Daniel Williams


HARMON, Daniel Williams, fur trader (b 19 Feb 1778, Bennington, VT; d 23 Apr 1843, near Montreal). He joined the FUR TRADE in Montreal in about 1800 and served with the North West Co (NWC) for 2 decades. After stints at posts in Saskatchewan and northern Alberta, he crossed the ROCKY MTS into NEW CALEDONIA in 1810. Stationed at FORT ST JAMES and FORT FRASER, he remained in the district for 9 years before returning to eastern Canada. When the NWC and the HBC merged, he retired to Vermont. Later...
