GREEKS began arriving in BC during the 1850s when George Kapiotis, the first Greek known to have settled here, arrived from California. He prospered in the Fraser R GOLD RUSH and lived in VICTORIA, where he married an aboriginal woman. Another early Greek immigrant was John Nicholas Giannaros, who in 1878 became the first Greek fisher on the FRASER R.
