George, Dan (Teswahno)


GEORGE, Dan (Teswahno), Squamish chief, actor (b 24 July 1899, N Vancouver; d 12 Sept 1981, Vancouver). A stevedore and logger, he was chief of the TSLEIL WAUTUTH (known also as the Burrard band) of the SQUAMISH First Nation from 1951 to 1963. At age 60 he began acting in television, stage and feature film productions, usually portraying a wise Elder.
