Fisgard Lighthouse

FISGARD LIGHTHOUSE at the entrance to ESQUIMALT Harbour was built in 1860 after a design by John WRIGHT. Named for a Royal Navy vessel, it was the first LIGHTHOUSE on the coast, beginning operation on 16 Nov 1860. It was automated in 1928 and joined to the mainland by a causeway in 1951. Fisgard was designated a National Historic Site in 1972.
