Fireside

FIRESIDE, 275 km northwest of FORT NELSON at Mile 543 of the ALASKA HWY in northern BC, was named by US Army members in 1942 after a large circular fireplace in the officers' mess building, later an inn. The Eg fire destroyed over 4,000 sq km of forest and half the settlement in 1982 (see also FOREST FIRES). There is a highway maintenance depot here.
