COLNETT, James, maritime fur trader (b 18 Oct 1753, England; d Sept 1806, London, England). An experienced mariner who had sailed on James COOK's second voyage to the Pacific in 1772–75, he traded on the northern BC and Alaskan coasts in 1787 and 1788 in command of the Prince of Wales and the Princess Royal, sponsored by the KING GEORGE'S SOUND CO.
