Cheney, Nan (Lawson)


CHENEY, Nan (Lawson), artist (b 22 June 1897, Windsor, NS; d 3 Nov 1985, Vancouver). After studying in the US she became the first medical illustrator in Canada. She worked in Montreal from 1922 to 1924; there she met and married Dr Hill Cheney. The couple moved to Ottawa and she began painting landscapes. It was in Ottawa that she met Emily CARR in 1927 and began a correspondence that lasted many years. In 1937 she moved to VANCOUVER, where her husband joined the staff of the General Hospital...
