BUDDHISM is a world religion founded in India about 500 BC. It subsequently spread throughout Asia, dividing into several different strands. There are some 85,000 Buddhists in BC, mostly followers of the Jodoshinshu school, a form of Mahayana Buddhism developed in Japan and brought to BC by JAPANESE immigrants late in the 19th century.
