BORDEN, Charles E., archaeologist (b 15 May 1905, New York City; d 25 Dec 1978, Vancouver). He came to VANCOUVER in 1939 as an assistant professor of German at UBC, where he taught until his retirement. He took up local ARCHAEOLOGY in 1945 and until 1965 was the only archaeologist working in BC. He received many official honours and in 1970 was appointed professor of archaeology at UBC in recognition of his research, teaching and publications.
