Big Creek

BIG CREEK is a ranching community (see CATTLE INDUSTRY) in the CHILCOTIN south of HANCEVILLE. The creek itself rises in the COAST MTS and drains north into the Chilcotin R, flowing through well-watered rangeland where cattle have been raised since 1896. LOGGING and TOURISM have also become important industries. Big Creek Provincial PARK (659.82 sq km) at the headwaters is an isolated preserve for BEAR, MOOSE and bighorn sheep (see MOUNTAIN SHEEP).
