Bentinck Island

BENTINCK ISLAND is a small piece of rock off the southern tip of VANCOUVER ISLAND between the island and RACE ROCKS. In 1924 the leper colony on D'ARCY ISLAND closed and a new facility opened here. It was not until 1956 that the last leper died. The department of defence assumed ownership of the island, which has been used as a demolition range.
