Bennett (W.A.C.) Dam


BENNETT (W.A.C.) DAM is located at the canyon of the PEACE R 24 km west of HUDSON'S HOPE. Along with its associated Gordon M. SHRUM Generating Station, named for a former chair of BC HYDRO, it has a generating capacity of 2,730,000 kilowatts, more than any other HYDROELECTRIC plant in BC. The dam was constructed by BC Hydro from 1962 to 1967 and the generating station, the largest underground powerhouse in the world at the time, came on line in 1968.
