BALTZLY, Benjamin F., photographer (b 5 Apr 1835, Tuscarawas City, OH; d 10 July 1883, Cambridge, MA). Already trained as a photographer when he moved to Montreal in 1866–67, he joined the firm of William Notman and came to BC in 1871 as part of a Geological Survey of Canada expedition to gather information about possible routes for the planned transcontinental railway.
