BAHA'I FAITH began in Persia (Iran) in 1844 when a young merchant known as the Bab ("the Gate") proclaimed his own prophetic mission and predicted the coming of another divine prophet. Although the Bab was executed as a heretic, his message spread throughout Persia and Iraq. In 1863 a Persian noble known as Baha'u'llah ("Glory of God") revealed that he was the Promised One foretold by the Bab, then spent the rest of his life a prisoner of the Turks for teaching his faith.
