Avola

AVOLA, pop 160, established in 1913 as a CANADIAN NORTHERN RWY station, is a picturesque log cabin community beside the N THOMPSON R on the Yellowhead Hwy (see ROADS AND HWYS), 185 km north of KAMLOOPS. It is a centre for the area's FOREST INDUSTRY, railway and farm workers. The original name, Stillwater Flats, was changed when it was discovered a Stillwater post office already existed. The current name is after the town in Sicily.
