Young Point


Young Point (53˚12'00" 132˚17'00" W entrance to Long Inlet, W end of Skidegate Inlet, QCI). This feature was named by Lt Daniel Pender after William Alexander George Young (c 1827–85), BC’s colonial secretary, to whom Pender reported after his 1866 survey of Skidegate Inlet. Young was a rising RN capt when he was appointed secretary of the British boundary commission in 1857 and came to Victoria to co-ordinate the survey of the 49th parallel.
