York Point (53˚05'00" 129˚10'00" SE side of Gil I, Whale Channel, off NW Princess Royal I). Joseph York (1835–1924), a native of Northamptonshire, immigrated to Victoria from England in 1862 and established himself as a dry goods merchant. In 1882 he had a partnership with fellow merchant Moses Lenz, and in 1901 he ran unsuccessfully as a Victoria alderman.
