Webber Island (52˚55'00" 129˚08'00" Entrance to Chapple Inlet, W side of Princess Royal I). John Webber (1751–93), born at London of Swiss heritage, was the official artist on Capt James Cook’s third voyage to the S Pacific, 1776–80. He was apprenticed to Johann Ludwig Aberli, a leading landscape artist, at Berne. After further training at Paris, he returned to London and studied at the Royal Academy, where his work was noticed by Daniel Solander, the botanist on Cook’s first voyage....
