Wakas Point


Wakas Point (51˚17'00" 127˚38'00" NE end of Indian I, W entrance to Takush Hbr, Smith Sd, N of Port Hardy). Named after a Gwa’sala First Nation chief from Takush Hbr. The Gwa’sala people, the most northerly of the Kwakwaka’wakw nations, once had an important winter village on the S side of Indian I, where the Nathlegalis reserve is located today. Wakas Point was formerly known as North Point.
