Wain Rock


Wain Rock (48˚41'00" 123˚29'00" W of Deep Cove, off NW Saanich Peninsula, NW of Victoria). Henry Wain (1826–1914), from Kent, left England in 1849 to work for the HBC as a carpenter, arriving in BC in 1850 in the supply ship Norman Morison. He travelled back and forth several times between England and Victoria, bringing his wife, Sarah (1828–1906, née Davis), out with him in 1857, and later pre-empted land in N Saanich, on the S side of Deep Cove, receiving a Crown grant in 1872.
