Village Reef


Village Reef (48˚53'00" 125˚17'00" N of Effingham I, Broken Group, Barkley Sd, W side of Vancouver I). Effingham I (qv), formerly known as Village I, was once a major summer habitation site for the Tseshaht First Nation, whose members belong to the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council. Capt Charles Barkley of the Imperial Eagle traded at this village in 1787, and his wife, Frances, described it in her journal. The settlement was abandoned in the early 1900s.
