Vesuvius Bay


Vesuvius Bay (48˚53'00" 123˚34'00" W side of Saltspring I, N of Booth Bay, Gulf Is). This feature was named in 1859 by RN surveyor Capt George Richards in association with Osborn Bay (qv), which is located on the opposite side of Stuart Channel, on Vancouver I. RN officer and Arctic specialist Sherard Osborn served on the Pacific Station, 1843–46, before going on to a distinguished naval career.
