Vanguard Bay


Vanguard Bay (49˚45'00" 124˚06'00" S side of Jervis Inlet, N side of Nelson I, SE of Powell R). HMS Vanguard was the flagship of Rear Adm Sir Horatio Nelson at the 1798 Battle of the Nile. Eleven of 13 French vessels, including the 120-gun flagship L’Orient, were captured or destroyed in this decisive victory over a superior force.
