Upsowis Point


Upsowis Point (50˚06'00" 127˚30'00" SE tip of Bunsby Is, W entrance to Malksope Inlet, NW of Kyuquot Sd, NW side of Vancouver I). Named after the nearby Checleset (Che:K’tles7et’h’) First Nation reserve of Upsowis, just to the N. This ancient summer habitation site, more commonly known as Opsowis (also Apsuwis), became the Checleset’s main year-round village from the late 1880s until they moved to Aktis I at Kyuquot in the 1950s.
