Turgoose Point


Turgoose Point (48˚36'00" 123˚23'00" E side of Saanich Peninsula, NW side of Saanichton Bay, N of Victoria). William Turgoose (1830–85), a native of Lincolnshire, England, immigrated to Illinois in the US before 1861 and came to BC, via California, to participate in the Cariboo gold rush. He ended up buying land in the Saanichton area about 1865 and eventually farmed more than 200 ha, specializing in shorthorn cattle. His property was known as the Fronton Farm.
